Coaches:

Gene Tundo Sr.

Tundo Sr., who currently serves as head coach at Orchard Park High School, has previously won a gold medal with Western as head coach at the Empire State Games. In his career at Orchard Park, Tundo has 484 career varsity wins and has captured 19 Section 6 championships. He has appeared in 11 Final Fours and three state finals, coaching 28 All-Americans during his tenure.

 

Joe Smith

Smith, who serves as head coach at Canisius High School, has won three professional world championships as a member of the Buffalo Bandits, Rochester Knighthawks and Rochester Rattlers. He won the 2007 Unsung Hero Award with the Rattlers, and coached the Italy National Team at the last World Games. He also represented the U.S. at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships. Smith is a graduate of Towson, where he served as team captain and won three CAA Conference Championships.

 

Gene Tundo Jr.

Tundo Jr., who was a member of the Buffalo Bandits in 2006, has seen action with the St. Regis Indians of Major Series Lacrosse. He was a four-year starter at UMass, where he was named ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2002, and advanced to the National Quarterfinals three times. Tundo finished 11th all-time in assists at UMass, and was named to Inside Lacrosse’s UMass All-Decade Team. A high school All-American, Tundo appeared in the Empire State Games twice, winning a gold medal once.

Tori Wehner

Graduated from Pittsford Sutherland High School in 2013
Two time high school all American winning two sectional and regional championships
Played for lady roc throughout high school
Played Empire State games as a freshman for the Western Region

Current player for Syracuse university
During her time at Syracuse, Wehner attended two final four tournaments and won an ACC championship.
Current assistant coach for the Monster Lacrosse Club out of Rochester, NY

Ali Curwin

Graduated from James Madison University in 2015, IWLCA 2nd team regional all-american, two time CAA 1st team all conference member and all academic squad. Was named the Academic Athlete of the Year in the CAA for lacrosse in 2014. Played for Pittsford in high school winning two sectional championships and 2 regional championships, also played in the Empire State Games for the Western Lacrosse team.

Holly Turner

Graduated from Pittsford Sutherland High School in 2014 where she played Lacrosse on varsity for four years and won sectionals and regionals twice as well as being named all great of rochester my sophomore, junior and senior year. She played Lady roc in the summer throughout high school as well as competed in the under armor games for update NY, Currently attends The University of Massachusetts where she played Lacrosse this past year and won the A-10 championship and lost in second round to Maryland, also was named to the A-10 all rookie team.

About Empire State Cup

The Empire State Cup was designed in 2012 to give high school boys lacrosse players in the state of New York another opportunity to be seen and recruited playing at the highest level of competition possible.

The 2015 Cup will introduced a new format with 3 divisions for boys and girls lacrosse and a brand new 7 v 7 football division.

Lacrosse Divisions are by graduation year 2015, 2017 & 2019. Players can only play for one division, and are eligible to play up a level.

ESC now has introduced football with two divisions of 7 v 7

Graduation years 2016 & 2018.

The cup is designed to see who indeed is the best region in the Empire State.
